The Pillow:

The past few mornings when my husband leaves for work, I’ve been secretly stealing his pillow from him. I return it to his side every night and every morning after he gets up, I roll over and grab his pillow and throw mine on the floor. This morning he asked my why I keep taking his pillow and I told him that his is more comfortable than mine. Then I drifted back into sleep…

This has happened a handful of times in our 2.5 years of marriage. My hubby gets stuck with some random pillow, and after a few months I start to become jealous of his pillow. I slowly start stealing it until sooner or later he lets me have it. I have an obsession with needing the perfect pillow. When I was younger I had the most wonderful pillow in all the world. I used it for years and years until my mom threw it away because it was falling apart. I was devastated that she did that to me! And to this day, I haven’t been able to find “the perfect pillow”.

2 years ago Taylor and I went to Florida to visit his family. I had recently acquired one of his pillows due to the fact that I was pregnant and uncomfortable, and decided this pillow needed to come with me to Florida. After a wonderful trip, we hurriedly headed to the airport because we were running late from our hotel and close to missing our plane. When we finally made it in our terminal, I remembered something devastatingly horrible: I LEFT MY PILLOW AT THE HOTEL! Nooooooooooo!!!! I made Taylor call his uncle (who was still staying at the hotel) and asked him to please grab my pillow. He did, but since we were so late to miss our plane, I had to choose. Pillow/Home… Pillow/Home… Home won. My pillow was stuck in Florida without me! After all of that stealing and begging and pleading, I only got to use the pillow a few nights! I asked Taylor a bunch of times to ask his uncle to mail it to us, Taylor said no. I tried to find out the best way to mail it, again Taylor said No. Didn’t he understand the importance here!?

So one day I was walking through TJ Maxx and LOW AND BEHOLD THERE WAS THE SAME KIND OF PILLOW THAT I STOLE FROM TAYLOR! Not just one! THERE WAS A PILE OF THE SAME TOMMY HILFIGER PILLOWS ON SALE!!!! So right then and there I bought every pillow like that that I could find. I bought 2 for me, 2 for Taylor, and 1 for Danika (that’s how I justified it in my head anyway, Taylor only uses one pillow and Danika rarely could keep one under her head!). So really I bought 1 for Taylor and 4 for myself, ya know, back up. Somehow over time, we whittled it down to 2 pillows (and if you are wondering, they both belong to me!).

But tonight Taylor and I were laying down talking and he brought up his pillow again. Again he asked why I keep taking it, and after I reenacted what I look like when I steal it every morning, he told me I could have it. I told him he didn’t have to do that, I’ll just take it in the morning and he told me it was fine, he didn’t mind. I kissed him goodnight and then continued to think about why I am never satisfied with my own pillow and why I always take his. It’s not that his pillows are ever more comfortable than mine, it’s that he uses that pillow every night and when he leaves in the morning, I feel comforted by reaching over and grabbing what belongs to him and cuddling with it. So honey, thank you for giving me your pillow. I will probably never be satisfied with my own, and I’ll likely always steal yours. I can’t wait to spend the next 50 years stealing your pillow, but I promise yours will be the only pillow I ever steal.

haha this is an amazing story. Andrew always steals my pillow too as soon as I get out of bed! I come back in our room when I get out of the shower and he’s on my side of the bed, laying all over my pillow.
What a sweet story. Thank you for sharing with us! I love you! oxxoxo

I do this too!! Every morning when Chris wakes up I steal his pillow… even if it means only sleeping with it for 30 mins before I have to get up myself. And when he is gone for training…. or even this upcoming deployment, I don’t even sleep with my pillow. I use his and sleep on his side of the bed. When he comes home I am forced back on to my own side of the bed and surrender the pillow…. but I will always keep stealing it, forever!!

Wow! That is some pillow talk! I do the exact same thing when Rudy gets up for work, I somehow manage to find myself on his side of the bed, attached to HIS pillow without any knowledge of how I wound up there… You wonder what it is that draws you to his side; his things. Perhaps it’s his fabulous scent that he leaves behind, or the fact that you’re wanting something that isn’t yours, or in my case (his side has a nice little ‘indentation’ I can just roll into and just feels so comfortable and warm). Whatever it is, I’m glad his pillow is the last one you’ll ever want and that I’m not the only crazy pillow theif out there. Great story Kesh! Love ya!
